We know the world begins Christmas celebration and promotion earlier and earlier every year, yet the Church bids us to a season of watchful waiting in that season of Advent. This series will help us look behind the tinsel, lights, and commercialism of Christmas and discover in Scripture, carols, and prayer God at the manger.
The Song of the Church: Discovering the Character of God through the Psalms
January 8 - February 19
The third longest book in the Bible, The Book of Psalms has long been called the song of the Church, for the Psalms have been a central part of the daily prayer of monastics, clergy, and lay people of the Church for more than a thousand years. The psalms have musical rhythm, poetic beauty, and profound insight that convey the heart of humanity in the spiritual journey. The Psalms mediate our meeting with the living God. This unique study will help you discover that encounter and awesome character of the Divine.
The Seven Last Words: Jesus’ Last Words from the Cross
February 26 - April 16
Our second book study of the year, we’ll read together gifted author and Episcopal priest Flemming Rutledge’s book The Seven Last Words. Our discussion will connect Jesus’ sayings from the cross with contemporary events and concerns, and appreciate how each word or saying from the Cross affords an opportunity for us to gain a deeper understanding of the Passion.

Regina Coeli: Joy, Sorrow, & Mystery in the Spiritual Life and Saying ‘Yes’ to God
April 30 - May 28
Eastertide brings a change in the traditional prayer offered at the conclusion of the Daily Office. Instead of The Angelus, which focuses on the Incarnation of Jesus, The Regina Coeli is prayed, which focuses on the joy of the Resurrection. Both of these Marian devotions help us see the is about growth, choice, struggle, and the freedom of the soul that comes from a devotion to and adoration of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
